About

Our Company

UMAR – WSR WAS FOUNDED IN 2000, TO OFFER SUPERIOR MARITIME PRODUCTS AND SERVICES TO SHIP OWNERS AND SHIP MANAGEMENT COMPANIES

From our modest beginnings, UMAR – WSR has evolved from strength to strength throughout the first decade of our existence, with an expanding series of acclaimed principles and a parade of dry docks to match our outstanding service performance. In 2008 we were rewarded with the OEB Innovation Award by the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation, in recognition of our Online Information System (U.O.L.I.S.), which enables continuous project handling information to our customers.

If we had a mission statement in those days, it could not have been expressed more eloquently than, “To offer a level of service and commitment to their clients, without compromise”.

These words are just as relevant today as they continue to reflect our beliefs, actions and ambitions for the future. Located in Limassol, Cyprus, UMAR – WSR maintains its dedication to offering premium quality maritime products and services to professionals anywhere and at any time, globally.

Our Brand

THERE ARE MANY UNMISTAKABLE CHARACTERISTICS THAT DEFINE OUR COMPANY – UNPARRALLED COMMITEMENT, QUALITY PRODUCTS, DEDICATED SERVICE, PERSONALISED APPROACH AND EXPERT KNOW HOW. YET IT IS THE COMBINATION OF THESE CHARACTERISTICS THAT HAS MADE OUR BRAND SO UNIQUE.

At UMAR – WSR we like to do things differently. We employ personnel based on values and knowledge. Each and every member on our team is considered family and our long list of clients are simply, family friends. What drives our brand is not solely economic profit; rather our brand was envisioned in order to build an extended society of advocates which could one day make a difference to our World.

Business has been great and we have, in the past, contributed in a positive way to the social, economic and environmental wellbeing of the community. Today however, more than ever before, the company feels that our values must prevail and together with our partners, clientele and friends are dedicated to doing more than “business as usual”. With this in mind, we have gained the ISO 9001/2000 in regards to quality and ISO 14000 certification for environmental procedures and have established The Life Jacket Foundation which was formed in order to support local and international children’s needs throughout the World.

Our Story

Our Story

UMAR | WSR IS NO ORDINARY COMPANY; FOR US, THE MARITIME INDUSTRY IS LIFE ITSELF. AGAINST THE CONVENTIONS OF THE BUSINESS WE SEEK TO FIND A BETTER APPROACH. THROUGH THE METAPHOR OF THE GRAY WHALE, WE BELIEVE THAT IF PEOPLE FOLLOW THEIR DREAMS THEY CAN CELEBRATE THEIR VERY EXISTENCE

Out in the depths of the Ocean, a young Gray whale, alone and beyond his pods protection was practising his swimming techniques. As he dived to the deepest fathoms of the ocean the oxygen in his lungs diminished, but this Gray, pushed on even deeper, trembling with fear, he reached the sea bed. This young Gray was no ordinary whale. For most Grays it’s not about swimming but finding food. But more than anything else our Gray loved to swim. His pod could not understand why he was so different. “Why don’t you just eat with everyone else?”

With the onset of winter, our Gray’s great migration was now underway. The 10,000 mile round trip was the longest any mammal on the planet had to make and our Gray, although exhausted was loving every second of the marathon journey.

One evening however, there was an eerie feeling; strange sounds filled the water with noises our Gray had never heard before. And then suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, our Gray saw them. Orcas! As they encircled the pod, the other calves dived for protection. In an effort to protect their family, the mothers dived haphazardly. It was not long before the orcas moved in and one mother and her calf were separated from the rest of the pod. Alone and helpless, their chances diminished with every passing second.

Our Gray decided to make a difference. He took the biggest breath at the surface and dived deeper than ever before. Turning towards the surface, he targeted the biggest of the Orcas and swam straight towards him. His only target was the Orca.

In an instant, collision! The Gray collided with the biggest Orca and with a swish of his powerful tail, lifted the orca straight out of the ocean. With the Orcas now gone, the pod grouped once again and the story of our Gray spread throughout the ocean and became legendary.

Our Gray had learnt that the effort to be like everyone else leads to boredom, fear and anger and these are the reasons that a whale’s life is so stressful. Without these elements in mind, he lived a long and fine life indeed.

1005406_388076307975949_237752212_n Members may be aware that the IMO officially celebrates 25 June (the anniversary of the adoption of the Manila Amendments to the STCW Convention) as the international ‘Day of the Seafarer’. Each year a social media campaign is held which aims to recognise the valuable work that seafarers do and promote awareness of the importance of seafarers to the wider world. This year, the theme for the campaign is ‘Faces of the Sea’ to spotlight the human face of shipping. Companies can participate directly by posting a photo of some of their staff, along with information as to how many… Continue Reading

The concept design is ready for the owners’ preferred choice, whether that it is to run on heavy fuel oil using emission treatment systems or to switch to low sulphur fuels or LNG.” The Green Dolphin concept design is a five-cargo-hold CSR double-hull bulk carrier that… Continue Reading

Ransoms to Pirates Remain a Spiraling Illegal Tax

sss Ransoms to Pirates Remain a Spiraling Illegal Tax on the 90% of World's Goods That Move by Sea. The revelation this week that the owner of an Algerian cargo ship whose crew was held by Somali pirates paid them $2.6 million in ransom is yet another indication that the rewards these denizens reap for their illegal, life- threatening work remain a serious stumbling block to ending maritime organized crime, AdvanFort Company President and COO William H. Watson said. (more…) Continue Reading
